What is a Membrane Switch?

A membrane switch, also referred to as membrane keypad, flat HMI control panel or flexible touch keyboard, is a human-machine interface constructed from printed polyester or polycarbonate graphic overlays bonded with printed conductive circuits. It operates via momentary contact: pressing the panel bridges the conductive traces to close the circuit and trigger functions, while the circuit returns to an open state once released. As the direct interactive medium between operators and equipment, membrane keyboards are widely adopted across industrial instruments, commercial devices, automotive interiors and smart machinery. Their internal circuits are screen-printed with silver or carbon conductive ink, making them lightweight, thin and customizable user interface modules for all industrial-grade end products.

Light Guide Film (LGF)

Copper Flex Circuits, Seal Frame & High-Grade Adhesive Solutions for Membrane Switches

Copper Flex circuits, also known as polyimide (Kapton) flexible circuitry, represent a premium circuit solution for custom membrane switches and membrane keypads. Thanks to outstanding dielectric strength, stable thermal performance, robust chemical resistance and exceptional flexibility, Kapton copper flex layers are widely adopted in high-end flexible HMI panel development.

TUOYUE fabricates copper flex membrane switch assemblies with polyimide (Kapton) as the core substrate. The production process bonds ultra-thin copper foil onto flexible polyimide film. Precision chemical etching then defines fine copper conductive traces. An extra polyimide cover layer is laminated over the circuit, selectively exposing gold-plated contact pads for reliable electrical connection.

Compared with conventional screen printed silver ink circuits, copper flex construction delivers obvious performance advantages, particularly ideal for outdoor equipment and harsh working environments. Many existing silver-circuit membrane keypads can be upgraded to copper-polyimide flexible circuitry with limited incremental cost, effectively extending service life and improving signal stability long-term.

Seal Frame Sealing Structure

A seal frame consists of a continuous perimeter adhesive frame built into your membrane switch assembly. This enclosed barrier blocks moisture, dust and liquid from penetrating internal conductive circuits. The seal frame delivers consistent, durable sealing performance, matching the reliability of alternative edge-sealing techniques and acts as a cost-effective waterproof foundation, which can be further combined with gasket structures to achieve IP67 / IP68 environmental protection grades.

These customized adhesive materials deliver powerful bonding strength between overlay, circuit layers and end-device housings.
